‘The Island’ born from an urge to explore the faces, stories, lives of many Bengali guys who spend their nights at the gasoline stations offering their help to drivers in exchange for a tip.
Sat down, lighted only by neon lights, their faces emerge from the darkness that surrounds them almost like castaways on a remote Island waiting for a ship that can rescue them. Men arrived in Italy with the hope to leave behind the poverty and the problems of their country, but forced to face the difficulties of one of the biggest city in the world: Rome.
This project, realized between 2012 and 2013 trough the medium format portrait, tells about this reality that flows along roadsides.

‘L’Isola’ nasce dalla necessità di raccontare i volti, le storie, le vite dei tanti ragazzi bengalesi che passano le proprie notti alle pompe di benzina romane offrendo il loro aiuto agli automobilisti in cambio di qualche mancia.
Seduti, illuminati solamente dalle luci al neon della stazione di servizio, i loro volti emergono dal buio che li circonda quasi come naufraghi su di un’isola sperduta in attesa di una barca che li possa salvare. Uomini arrivati in Italia con la speranza di lasciare alle spalle la povertà ed i problemi del loro paese e che si trovano costretti ad affrontare le difficoltà di una delle metropoli più grandi al mondo: Roma.
Il progetto, realizzato tra il 2012 e il 2013 attraverso il ritratto in medio formato, racconta questa realtà che scivola ai bordi delle strade.
